Selena Gomez Not in Tune With Carrie Underwood
Selena Gomez doesn't exactly agree with Carrie Underwood that celebrities should shut their traps when it comes to politics.
"A lot of people do look up to certain celebrities and will follow in their footsteps," Gomez told me earlier today, adding, "I think you just have to be aware of what you're saying."
Underwood refuses to say who she's backing for prez. "I lose all respect for celebrities when they back a candidate," she explains in the new issue of TV Guide.
Gomez countered, "I'm glad that people are getting involved with the election. This election has been the biggest with celebrities."
Although Gomez can't vote yet because she's only 16, she's thrown herself into this year's election season, encouraging young people to educate themselves on the issues. Most recently, she helped launch UR Votes Count, a nationwide program that asked teens to cast their votes at polling stations set up in 150 malls in 42 states.
So, who are teens going for these days?
Nick and Selena Buh-Bye?
Trouble may be brewing in teenybopperville. We cornered the Jonas brothers at the glittery Carousel of Hope affair in Beverly Hills. We demanded an up-to-date rundown, of sorts, about who's taken and who ain't.
There's some urgent juice here, so read on:
Update
Slater's Enemy Minefield; Grey's TiVo Salvation
My Own Worst Enemy, indeed.
Christian Slater's new dual-identity series didn't do itself any favors last night, pulling in only 7.3 million, per estimates, or about one viewer per NBC promo aired during the Summer Olympics.
The premiere not only got beat big by CBS' CSI: Miami (13 million), it got beat by Journeyman (9.2 million), Studio 60 (13.4 million) and LAX (13 million), to name three semi-recent failed Monday night NBC series.
Also on Monday, Gossip Girl (3.3 million) and One Tree Hill (3.5 million) furthered CW's cause among young women, while Christina Applegate's Samantha Who? (11.7 million) won its time slot but lost 2 million viewers from last fall's premiere.
Elsewhere, Grey's Anatomy loves TiVo users, or vice versa, and the Disney Channel faithful prefer Selena Gomez (slightly) to Miley Cyrus—plus eight other lessons learned from the weekly Nielsen rankings:
Attention, Shia LaBeouf: Please Call Selena Gomez!
Either Selena Gomez isn't dating Nick Jonas, or Jonas is a really understanding boyfriend.
Gomez, 16, surprised the red carpet press on Saturday night at the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital's Runway for Life benefit when she suddenly shouted, "Let Shia know I'm available!"
She was apparently inspired to make sure everyone knew about her longtime thing for 22-year-old Shia LaBeouf (she's gushed about it in the past) after being asked about her celeb crushes.
The Transformers star isn't the only boldfaced type Gomez would like to meet up with...
Selena Gomez Sweetens Halloween for UNICEF
For Halloween, Selena Gomez is unmasking her charitable side.
The Disney Channel wizard has signed on as the face of the 2008 Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF campaign, which urges kiddies to help out children around the world by collecting donations while making their yearly candy runs on Oct. 31.
The program has raised more than $140 million since its inception in 1950.
"I am extremely excited to be this year's Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF spokesperson," the 16-year-old Gomez said. "I want to help encourage other kids to make a difference in the world."
The Wizards of Waverly Place star hasn't let on to what she'll be doing for Halloween this year, but we imagine that dressing up as a lovebug will be involved.
Selena Gomez: A Heart Divided?
What do Nick Jonas, Cody Linley and Kim Kardashian all have in common?
A personal fan club of one in Selena Gomez. But just who is the Disney star actually rooting for?
Selena made a front-row appearance at Dancing With the Stars last night, giving a standing ovation to rumored beau Nick and his famous brothers when they performed.
However, ABC reps say she was actually a guest of Cody's. On top of that, Selena recently told us that she would be "voting nonstop" for her pal Kim K. "I definitely think she will win."
So who was she really there for?
Turns out it could be none of the above. DWTS contestant Misty May-Treanor recently shot an episode of Gomez's show Wizards of Waverly Place—maybe Selena was just returning the favor?

Selena Gomez Just Says No to Sex
Let the casting of a teenage Carrie Bradshaw begin.
Earlier this week, HarperCollins announced that Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell signed a deal to write two young-adult novels focusing on Bradshaw's high school years.
No doubt a television or movie adaptation won't be far behind. If so, Selena Gomez says you can count her out.
Selena and Taylor: Looking for Prince Charming?
Prince Charming was on everyone's minds yesterday at the premiere of Selena Gomez's new movie, Another Cinderella Story.
In the direct-to-DVD musical, Gomez plays a modern-day Cinderella who falls for the new hottie (Drew Seeley) at her high school.
Selena Gomez's Cinderella Liplock
Selena Gomez is kissing and telling!
No, not about her maybe-boyfriend Nick Jonas.
In her latest flick, Another Cinderella Story (out Sept. 16), she locks lips with her costar, Drew Seeley (above). Gomez plays a girl who falls for a popular singer (Seeley) enrolled at their school, Beverly Hills High.
It took about 10 takes to get the kiss right...
A-List Face-Off: Selena's Chucks vs. Miley's Cleavage
Whose style is more on point: Miley Cyrus or Selena Gomez? Let me make it perfectly clear that I am not rooting for anyone.
—Prep Gurl
If you submitted this question so that I would start a flame war in our comments pitting Selena's hypersanitized faux-rock wardrobe against Miley's lollipop-colored slutwear, then congratulations! Done!
In brief: Miley Cyrus has great style, all right, but it's the style of a 21-year-old velvet-rope-jumping club bunny: dresses with push-up bustiers and short skirts that go up to mid-thigh.
"She's 15, but looks like an adult," says Corinne Phipps, founder and lead stylist at Urban Darling. "What does that leave for when she's 21, Madonna cone boobs?"
Selena Gomez, meanwhile, is like a walking peppermint stick compared with Miley. Here's what I mean, and what stylists have to say about her look:
The Miley Cyrus-Nick Jonas-Selena Gomez Love Triangle Continues in Song
You know how the Lohan family communicates with each other through press statements and MySpace blogs? Well that’s kind of how the Disney kids communicate, except through thinly veiled song lyrics.
Like this past summer when Miley Cyrus bitched about the "7 Things" she hates about some guy, especially how he makes her love him. That was totally all about Nick Jonas! And then Nick had a song on the new Jonas Brothers album called “Sorry” about him and a special someone “going our separate ways.” Could he have been talking about Miley?
Now, Selena Gomez is getting in on the meaningful lyric game with a song titled “I’m Sorry,” which she tells Twist about:
Well, Selena Gomez,There Are 63,360 Inches in a Mile
Disney star, Miley Cyrus frenemy and rumored Nick Jonas dater Selena Gomez just released her music video for “Tell Me Something I Don’t Know” from Another Cinderella Story.
Us Weekly probably summed it up best with the headline “Watch Selena Gomez Dance With a Mop.” Yep, that’s about all there is here. Well, that and a preview of Disney’s next big thing.
Whereas her BFF Demi Lavato looks like she’s trying hard to be a rock star in “Get Back” and there’s no question that Miley brings it (like Madonna!) in “7 Things,” Selena’s all “Hey! I’m cute and fun. Who wants to have a sleepover?! I’ll bring the tube of cookie dough!”
Needless to say, this video is way better than that rehash of “Our Lips Are Sealed” which Hilary Duff released with the first version of A Cinderella Story. But give these girls another six years and they could be in Hilary’s spot—watching a new crop of cute young'uns rise in fame while taking dad to court to foot a $25,000 21st-birthday-party bill. (Aw, poor Hil, we do miss you!)
What do you think? Better than Miles or just whatever?
