A-List Secrets: The Cushy Life of H'wood Toddlers

What's with all these celebrity toddlers still sucking on pacifiers, being carried and pushed in strollers at 3 years old?

So you want me to spit some snark at Tom and Katie over their parenting skills. Meh. I'd rather spit some snark at Madonna, just because she keeps doing stuff. But you asked, so I answer. The reason for all the kiddie holding, according to current and former Hollywood nannies, is much more innocent and sympathetic than you might think. In fact it's even a bit—gag—touching.

See if you can handle the treacly sweetness of the truth after the jump.

Spied: Gwen & Gavin Wind It Up at Wimbledon

Gavin Rossdale, Gwen Stefani Susan Mullane/Zuma Press

There's no doubt Roger Federer had some serious star power on his side during Sunday's Wimbledon finals.

But even with the support of "Sweet Escape" singer Gwen Stefani and her husband, Gavin Rossdale, the Swiss tennis ace still couldn't, well, escape losing to Spain's Rafael Nadal during the marathon match.

While Federer probably doesn't consider his famous friends to be bad luck, we wouldn't blame him if he secretly hopes they become too preoccupied with their soon-to-be newborn baby to attend next month's U.S. Open.

Gwen and Gavin Go Goth

When it comes to boring color choices for their new baby nursery, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have found the cure.

Or rather, The Cure.

Rossdale told OK! that he and Stefani aren't going with blue or pink for the new baby's room. They're going to paint it black.

"We don't know if it's a boy or a girl. Plus, we are going to put him in a black room. It'll be a goth baby so it doesn't matter if it is a boy or a girl," says Rossdale.

Whether he's joking or not, he's right. No matter the sex, a roomful of black walls should depress boys and girls equally.

It was a busy weekend for Gwen Stefani, Gavin Rossdale and son Kingston, who turned 2. In addition to frolicking on the beach together in Malibu, Gwen and Gavin threw him a party at their Beverly Hills mansion.

Of course, the fete wouldn't be complete without famous faces and their respective tykes. Christina Aguilera, Jordan Bratman and Max made the scene, while Posh brought Cruz to the celebration. Nicole Richie and Joel Madden also brought baby Harlow along for Kingston's big day.

There was even an inflatable bounce house and a petting zoo at the party.

Clearly, it's good to be Kingston.

Does She Call Gwen Stefani "Mommy"?

More from Marc Malkin

There’s no doubt in my mind the teen daughter of Gwen Stefani’s hubby, Gavin Rossdale, could well be on her way to becoming New York City’s next It girl.

Nineteen-year-old British model Daisy Lowe—it was revealed five years ago that Rossdale is her father—has just moved to the Big Apple and is already proving she’s got chutzpah and a deliciously dirty mouth.

Gavin Rossdale: "I Have a Tough Wife"

Gavin Rossdale, WANDERlust

Gavin Rossdale does more than marry well, look handsome and make adorable children. On June 3, he'll release a nonhuman creation called WANDERlust.

Yes, we aren't fans of creative capitalization, but we are curious about what he reveals about life with Gwen Stefani.

He gives a hint in his description of the first single, "Love Remains the Same": "I have a tough wife with high standards...It’s hard to be with anybody for any length of time, and there are those times when you realize we need to make an effort here."

Take a listen (or hey, just look at the guy) to a video preview after the jump. In it he has some car trouble and meets some birds along the road. Sounds promising, right? (Or vaguely like a porno movie.)

Who Doesn't Have a Fashion Line?

Are there any stars left that don't have their own fashion line!? Avril Lavigne recently announced one. How do they get them, and do they really sit down and design?
—Jessica, Calabasas, California

Most celebrity fashion lines:

  1. Aren't really celebrity
  2. Aren't really fashion
  3. And—OK, let's cave a little. They are indeed "lines."

Instead, some company, usually a manufacturer based out in warehouse country, approaches a star who has captured a certain crowd. The company licenses the right to use a celebrity's name on a clothing brand. The star usually has to agree to appear in ads and promote the clothes, in exchange for a percentage of the sales.

And that's largely it, according to an industry insider who spoke to this B!tch. Some nameless designer steps in and does most of the work. And aside from maybe looking at swatches and gurgling "pretty," that's all the starlet has to do to have a fashion collection.

There are exceptions, of course.

Gwen Stefani has partnered with a very talented designer to create her L.A.M.B. line, which is highly respected in the biz. Mandy Moore has a reputation for being more hands-on than most celebrity designers—she allegedly started her Mblem line because she was having trouble finding T-shirts to fit her long torso.

And Lauren Conrad, like Nicky Hilton, actually bothered to go to fashion school before venturing onto a catwalk.

Even Jessica Simpson has been given credit by one of her manufacturing partners for being more than just a marketing dingbat.

"She will come off a plane from London and sit here for 10 hours approving designs," Vincent Camuto of the Camuto Group told WWD last year. "Nothing gets into the store without her approval."

How reassuring. Because if there's one celebrity whose fashion guidance I crave, it's hers.
