Kate Moss Joins Gild: Mega-Statue Museum-Bound
Someone has taken Kate Moss' role as fashion's golden girl rather literally.
British sculptor Marc Quinn is ready to unveil his latest creation to the world, a nearly $2.8 million, 110-pound solid gold statue of the supermodel, hyped as the largest such creation built since ancient Egypt.
Quinn, the artist behind 2006's Sphinx, a painted bronze statue of Moss in a somewhat provocative yoga pose, has dubbed his new golden girl Siren.
And the British Museum has already heeded its call.
Barack Obama's Fashionable Fundraising
It's fashionable to support Barack Obama.
Just ask Sarah Jessica Parker and Anna Wintour.
The Sex and the City star and Vogue empress are hosting a fundraising fashion show for the presidential contender during Fashion Week in New York City.
The Sept. 9 shindig at the Charles Nolan Studio will feature designs from Beyoncé and Tina Knowles for House of Dereon, Diane Von Furstenberg, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Juicy Couture, Narciso Rodriguez and Proenza Schouler, among others.
Back in June, Michelle Obama attended and spoke at a money raiser hosted by Wintour and her boyfriend Shelby Bryan along with Vogue's André Leon Talley and designer Calvin Klein.
No word if the potential first lady will be slipping into a pair of Jimmy Choos and a DVF wrapdress to attend next month's to-do.
It's a Special Tim Gunn Quote Day
Tim Gunn is out talking to everyone today—well, except us (what’s up with that, Tim?)—and he’s got plenty to say.
Let's start with Us Weekly: Tim likes Michelle Obama’s fashion choices over Cindy McCain’s. "She epitomizes class and American style. She looks approachable." Meanwhile, Cindy, "with her button-down suits and blouses—looks like she's duct-taped."
All right, now it’s People’s turn. Apparently, he disapproves of Katie Holmes’ pegged jeans. “I have to say, Katie Holmes has become so much more sophisticated in so many ways, but I think she’s in a dip right now. I can’t explain it.” We can explain it—it's an acquired taste, and after a slow gossip month, Katie's jeans are pretty exciting.
And what does he think about a certain Disney Channel star? You gotta jump first...
Jeremy Piven's Punk Rock Past
Jeremy Piven and punk rock?! Definitely not the most likely combo to come across our desks.
But when Piven was recently asked about his favorite moments in music fashion, he says it was the antiestablishment rock scene, particularly the Clash and the late Plasmatics frontwoman Wendy O. Williams (above).
"I remember seeing Wendy O. Williams with this shock of blonde hair with a Mohawk, and she came out on stage in a muscle car and took out a chainsaw and cut the car in half," Piven told Fashion Rocks during a photo shoot for the mag. "That had a lot of influence on me as an artist."
Celeb Spenders and Savers: Leighton vs. Nicole
Little black dresses are pretty standard evening attire for ladies-about-town, so it's the shoes that really separate Leighton Meester's and Nicole Richie's outfits.
So who splurged on her designer heels—almost four times as expensive as the other starlet's dress—and who saved? Test your fashion savvy right here!
Mary-Kate: Where Is It Acceptable to Not Wear Pants With Grunge Shirts?
With her big hair and shiny Lycra, Heidi Montag officially killed the '80s revival sweeping across hipster circles everywhere, which means it's time to move on to early '90s grunge.
So you may be wondering: Just where is it acceptable to wear an oversize plaid shirt and no pants? For that answer, we consult our favorite Olsen twin and world-renowned trendsetter (just 'cause you hate her style, doesn't mean she isn't one), Mary-Kate Olsen. Can you guess where M.K. was in this getup?
- Heading home after a hanging with the BF. This is perfect walk-of-shame attire
- Catching a screening of Death Race
- Checking out the Radiohead concert with all the other cool kids
- Roaming the streets of Hollywood warning girls about the perils of child stardom
- Holding a John Mayer-like paparazzi press conference to talk more crap about Spencer Pratt
Wallace & Gromit Say Cheese!
They've modeled clay, but now Wallace & Gromit are modeling the latest fashions.
The cheese-loving claymates are the newest faces for the British department store Harvey Nichols, exchanging their usual sensible mix of tweeds, sweater vests and dog collars with finery from designers Alexander McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana and Giorgio Armani. And Wallace love interest Lady Tottington will be seen sporting some Christian Louboutin stilettos, according to the U.K.'s Sun.
While we still have to wait for the duo's next animated adventure, the currently in-production A Matter of Loaf and Death, we're perfectly willing to accept them as our next top models.
Because that's one fierce dog.

Coldplay's Stitch Sitch: Say What?! Sew What?!
The whole stars-getting-their-own-fashion-lines thing is way out of control. (Hello, LiLo, L.C., J.T., Posh, Diddy et al.)
But there are some celebs who might actually deserve it. Case in point, the lads of Coldplay, who have discovered that the band that sews together, rock 'n' rolls together. Frontman Chris Martin tells the U.K.'s Mirror that sewing is what keeps the group so tight-knit.
"Making clothes together in our studio makes us feel complete. We probably sound like a group of grannies in a knitting circle, but it's the truth, and it gives us some control over our visual identity."
Fame, They Wear It Well, but for How Long?
Yeah, we know it looks like the Jonas Brothers are opening a dry-cleaning business. Especially coming on the heels of last week's suit giveaway at Madame Tussauds.
This time, the cute-as-a-button boys' yard sale is for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland. Fanatics will recognize these duds from their No. 1 album, A Little Bit Longer. Speaking of which, we understand why Nick didn't want to wear those mauve monstrosities even one little bit longer.
Rachel Zoe Is "Almost Like a Food Pusher." Really?!
Maybe Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie simply missed the candy bowl that was set out.
Given that some of Rachel Zoe's biggest clients were at their smallest while she was busy dressing them, it's understandable why the following might be a little hard to, er, swallow.
"I am very pro-eating," says the celebrity stylist while promoting her new Bravo reality show, The Rachel Zoe Project, premiering Sept. 9. "And if you ask anyone that is in my personal life or professional life, I'm almost a food pusher."
Mmm, and what exactly is your definition of push there, Zoe?
Paris Hilton's Hairy Situation
The Paris Hilton empire just keeps on growing.
Guess what's she's coming out with next?
Something called the Bandit, which is described in a press releases as "the first interchangeable hair extension headband." (From what we can gather, it's a headband in which hair extensions attach to it with Velcro.)
Ms. Hilton will debut these hair thingamajigs (they come in three lengths and various colors, including, of course, Paris Blonde) on Saturday at a private L.A.-area press conference and fashion show.
Stars Test Our Patience With Hervé Léger
To consider yourself a star in this town, you gotta have a Hervé Léger dress because—OMG!—they're just like Spanx but in the form of a dress! For the past six months, it's been almost impossible not to spot one on the red carpet.
But seriously, there are 47 different options just from the runway show alone, not to mention all the different color combos possible. That's why we're so upset to see Kiely Williams (she's a Cheetah Girl), Heidi Montag and Jenny McCarthy all wearing the exact same one.
Don't people in Hollywood have stylists for a reason? These ladies are seriously tempting us to enforce a strict red carpet ban on all Hervé Léger bandage dresses (except for Hayden Panettiere, she can still wear them).
Sorry about the rant, but we take the red carpet very seriously, no matter how small the event or star. Are you with us and totally over the bandage dress, or are you plotting ways to get one of your own? (It's cool if you are, no judgment.)
