Our Bad, Britney Will Not Perform at the VMAs
Last week, we told you all about a special hairstyle Britney's mane man Kim Vo was preparing for an epic VMA comeback performance. Unfortunately, it turns out he was only speaking theoretically.
Brit's manager Larry Rudolph released this official statement today: "Contrary to media reports, Britney was never slated to perform on this year's VMAs. She's in the middle of recording her next album, which is going amazingly well, and her focus remains on the studio."
Of course, we went back to check with Vo if this was accurate and not some cover for a surprise performance, but he confirmed:
More Rumblings of a Britney VMA Performance
First it was the VMA promos (did anyone else who watched them feel slightly uncomfortable for Britney?), then it was rumors of a VMA performance in a British tabloid, and now it’s a chatty hairdresser—all giving us hope that the Britney Spears we know and love is indeed coming back.
Lucky for us, that chatty hairdresser is our very own Kim Vo, the Daily 10’s resident hair guru, who told E! News exclusively that he just may be creating three VMA looks for the “E-mail My Heart” singer.
What could Britney possibly need three different hairstyles for? That info's way too valuable to be included before the jump...
Britney Spears' Bikini Bod Secrets
With all the ogling at Britney Spears' fabulous physique has come the seemingly requisite question whenever celebs lose weight: "Gee, how did they do it?"
Sure enough, the pop star reveals just that in the latest issue of OK! magazine, talking about how she's cut out sugar and that her meals consist of things like chicken, salmon, rice, avocados, egg whites and turkey burgers.
"I try to do just 1,200 calories a day," says Brit, who also happens to work out five days a week. "It may sound like it's not much, but it's actually a lot of food if you eat the right things."
Valuable information indeed. Not that anybody out there is really going to use it, but valuable nonetheless.
K-Fed's Livin' It Up in Las Vegas
While Britney Spears may be headed back to court to fight some hefty legal bills, her ex-husband headed to Las Vegas to party like the rock star he's not.
Kevin Federline, his brother and a bunch of guy friends set up camp VIP-style inside a private cabana at Tao Beach Monday afternoon, after gambling at the Venetian over the weekend.
"The guys were all in great spirits," a Tao Beach spy tells E! News, who noted the boys wolfed down Kobe beef burgers and platters of chicken satay.
And they washed it all down with K-Fed's favorite, a bottle of Jack Daniels and shots of Patrón.
Funny, because we figured it was Brit who would need a shot or two after opening that latest tab from her former attorney Stacy Phillips (for $338,414.87). Pass the bottle, Federline... Salud!
Britney Owes Big Money for Custody Battle
Who said getting back on track was cheap?
Stacy Phillips, one of the shorter-term members of Britney Spears' legal team, has let it be known that shoring up one's defenses can be downright bank-breaking.
According to a declaration filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court, the "Sometimes I Run" songstress owes $338,414.87 to Phillips for $700-an-hour services rendered between March and June—and there are rumors of a lawsuit in the works, because Spears' camp is objecting to the hefty sum. (View court documents.)
But that's a discount, says the attorney, who states that the tab includes "time already deducted as a courtesy," time "written off" and $75,000 that she expects to get next month. (A court commissioner earmarked that sum for Phillips in April while poring over Spears' bills.)
MTV Loves Britney Spears to Pieces
Is Britney Spears feeling some pressure to perform at MTV's upcoming Video Music Awards?
Well, the gal definitely has good reason to take to the stage. She's just nabbed a third VMA nomination for Video of the Year for "Piece of Me."
She and Chris Brown lead the VMA noms with three apiece. (Brown must have the magic touch because he's also featured on Jordin Sparks' twice-nominated "No Air.")
Britney Spears: A Calmer, Cleaner Interview
Who can ever forget how OK!'s last attempt at a photo shoot with Britney Spears eventually turned to dog poop? Literally.
Well, apparently, the mag has since made peace with the pop star. That, or it simply realized the revenue potential of having her on the cover of the latest issue.
Inside, Brit talks about her recent comeback as well as what life is now like with her two boys.
"Well, when I have my children, I'll get up and make them pancakes," she says.
Ah, but, more important, what kind?
Burning Q's: Why All the Midweek Movie Releases?
What's with movies opening up on Wednesdays? First Pineapple Express and now Tropic Thunder as well.
—Lee
The release date for Tropic Thunder actually was changed before that of Pineapple Express.
According to Chad Hartigan of Exhibitor Relations, movie ticket sales gradually slow down as August progresses. So the Thunder people decided to open a few days earlier, to sell as many tickets as possible among the coveted teen-male crowd before they all started heading back to school.
Then the Pineapple people found out what the Thunder people were planning. Like Thunder, Pineapple is aimed at the teen-male audience. But now it would have only five days in theaters before Thunder moved in. So the Pineapple people, too, moved back their date, Hartigan speculates, so that it could a few more days to itself.
Now, on to more of your Burning Q's!
Do you think that Britney Spears can ever really make a comeback?

Britney Spears' Brand of Humor
Britney Spears is proving day after day that she is well on her way to getting back to being the pop princess we all fell in love with not so long ago.
Check her out in one of the promos she shot for MTV's Video Music Awards alongside the show's host, Russell Brand—the mama of two looks hot!
Isn't it nice to hear her laughing and having a good time?
And the only headshaving we’d like to see from now on is that of Mr. Brand. The Brit bad-boy comedian's signature updo is bloody scary.
Britney's License Trial Still Idling
Britney Spears can continue to keep her distance from the courthouse for now.
The popster's trial on a year-old misdemeanor charge of driving with an invalid license has again been pushed back, this time to Sept. 8. A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Sept. 2.
A lawyer for Spears has characterized the case, stemming from the singer's 2007 run-in with a parked car while only toting a Louisiana driver's license, as another instance of a public figure being punished for her fame.
"Anyone can see this is not the case of the century. The fact is that Britney is being treated differently," attorney Michael Flanagan told E! News in March. "This should be just treated as a fix-it ticket or an infraction."
Court dates pertaining to this case have been shuffled multiple times this year, with her legal camp using her early-'08 mental-health troubles to argue that she couldn't quite grasp the repercussions of her situation.
First Look: Britney's Mom Gets Dishy
Lynne Spears' promised book has shaped up to be less of a parenting handbook and more of a juicy memoir of a Southern mother raising a pop star in the midst of paparazzi mayhem.
Titled Through the Storm: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World, the 272-page book published by Thomas Nelson—and to be released Sept. 16—is sure to be a page-turner.
According to prereviews from Barnes & Noble, the book describes how Lynne was an ordinary mother changed by the success of her daughter Britney and how it pushed the family onto the worldwide stage. The book also promises to reveal a rarely glimpsed side of Lynne, her celebrity daughters, son Bryan and ex-husband Jamie.
